A-17 Broadsword [WC Academy, WC2, Priv]

Introduced in 2635, the A-17 Broadsword was the first Confed military bomber to feature a jump drive. Although large, heavy and slow, it made up for its lack of speed and maneuverability with its large weapons loadout and excellent defenses.

The Broadsword was mainly used on strike missions against various Kilrathi cruisers and carriers. Its load-out of four torpedoes would often be sufficient to destroy or severely disable e…

There are two mentions of a pre-war era “Falcon”: One in Action Stations, referring to it as a heavy fighter/bomber,

The Falcon heavy fighter/bomber was old but still around in 2634.

The other in Fleet Action, referring to a “Falcon light corvette, that uses Mark 10 engines”...

The Gladiator heavy, space to ground bomber was an old bird by 2634.

The Hurricane space-to-surface fighter escort was designed to protect Gladiators and Sheridan marine landers.

Comment:

The need to enter an atmosphere from space calls for certain requirements, but a space to ground mission typically would not necessitate much fuel. It could simply glide down to target, sort of like the 21st Century Space Shuttle, and then take its time making it back to space. Ramjets…

Trident

Class: Heavy bomber.

In 2634, many were arrayed at Johnson Island station, McAuliffe.

Comment

The fact that they were at a ground base with a strip would seem to indicate they are atmo capable, and should therefore look aerodynamic in a supersonic way (sharp leading edges, swept wings, etc). And considering they were heavy bombers, good inspirations could come from the US B1 bomber, which is also supersonic; or an oversized SR-71, IMO (Monk).
