and yet… the controllers of that website think they can ram their concept of “canon” down the throats of fans. I had to force myself to read through the two books by Peter Telep, and in my opinion, they are a disgrace to WC: I was actually quite prepared to embrace the introduction of the “Pilgrims”, and even wrote a little paper about Ethnicity in WC before actually reading the books. But after reading the books, I had to abandon the idea. Not that a religion or race couldn't enrich the WC universe; the real problem is the kind of “Pilgrims” Peter Telep created, with all manner of psychic powers that they even use to win battles. Psychic powers, like magic, elves, ghosts, and werewolves have no place in Science Fiction. In fact, his books aren't just a disservice to WC, but yet one more instance of fantasy writing trying to usurp shelf space in the SF sections of bookstores. Most WC fans we meet don't care to see psychic powers creeping into WC, and generally abhor the WC movie; and so this is a WCM-free and Peter Telep-free website.
Or to take a more recent example: WC Arena. The CIC powers at the top are all gung ho about Arena. The game was taken apart piece by piece by reviewers, though; ignored in the marketplace; and rejected by most fans. Its ship models somewhat resemble some of the original models they claim to represent, in their general form; but have cartoonish textures, and large new “greebles” that don't even look technical, and simply don't belong. One of us bought it and plays it as a passtime, occasionaly; and some of us wouldn't touch it if it was gratis; but generally we seem to agree that “Arena does NOT do much for WC”, to put it rather mildly. Its use of the WC name is obviously an attempt to make money off us fans, but that's rather “taking from” WC, than “giving to” it.
It would appear as if the CIC's policy is to endorse, endorse, and then endorse some more whatever the franchise holders do, regardless of how good or bad it is. If so, this is NOT good: I would defend the franchise holders' right to honest feedback; in fact. It does them no good to hear that everything is good and rosy when it isn't; and at worst they could cut their losses by selling the franchise, if they found the expectations of WC fans too hard to satisfy; but to give them unconditional positive feedback is in nobody's interest.
