Steltek Drone
Before retiring to the center of the galaxy, the Steltek left behind robotic drones like this one, which lie dormant and hidden among asteroids for millions of years until they detect a ship possessing old Steltek weapons technology; at which time they wake up and follow the the ship relentlessly trying to destroy it (and destroying any ships in their path as well).
The Steltek have noble reasons for that: Their civilization almost destroyed itself in a civil war that lasted for milennia, and they fear that if other races find their derelict ships and weapons and reverse-engineer their technology, they might destroy themselves as well.
We can also theorize that the drones send a translight communication signal to the Steltek, at the core of the galaxy, to alert them of the fact that Steltek technology has been found. It would help explain the reason why the Steltek scout showed up shortly after Burrows steals the gun from the derelict fighter.
