Gotha - surface to space interceptor (pre-war)

Still in service in the Landreich, in 2634. When Kruger, Richards, Tolwyn and Turner get back to Hell Hole from Gar's Emporium, while walking along the tarmac on their way to meet Landreich's President Johann Blucher, two Gothas lift off.

Action Stations, Page 195:

A couple of ancient Gotha surface-to-space interceptors lifted off from the runway behind them, engines roaring at full afterburner as they nosed up to vertical and punched into supersonic speeds, the double boom slamming into Geoff so that he winced. Vance watched them disappear and grinned.
“Hell, if I tried that stunt on Johnson Island I'd be grounded for a month.”

Comment:

If I were modelling a Gotha, I'd think of something in between a jet fighter and a rocket. Smaller wings than a jet fighter; perhaps forward swept, long ramjet engines, plenty space for fuel.
