Largka Cakg dai Nokhtak (Admiral)

Uncle of Murragh Cakg dai Nokhtak "Hyilghar", member of the dai Nokhtak hrai or clan, which is a sub-clan of the Kiranka clan, and a cousin of Thrakath.

He had been a staff officer in Kilrah for too long, and had finally appealed to Emperor himself for ANY battle command, rather than none. Finally he was assigned to command a small raiding party into the Landreich. He was aboard the supercarrier flagship KIS Karga, when it raided Landreich in late 2669.

The FRLN repel the raid, destroying three of Karga's four escorts: two cruisers and the destroyer Takh'lath, before the Karga retreats through the jump point.

Later, in the Vaku system, they meet two Terran Confederation cruisers: The TCS Juneau and TCS Dover, and a long battle ensues: The cruisers first badly damage the Karga's last remaining escort, the Frawqirg, before the Karga gets through the jump point to be able to assist. Then they attack the Karga itself. The battle ends with the destruction of both cruisers and crippling damage to the Karga. Largka commits ritual suicide aboard the Karga, along with many of his crew, but not before killing Lord Khirgh, Fleet Intelligence officer and spy for Thrakath, at the end of a short but heated argument..

False Colors, page 18:

“I know my duty,” Khirgh snarled. “But you cannot deny the cost of this exercise.”

“If your precious Prince had planned something more worthwhile than a mere raid to be avenged for what the humans on Landreich did at the Battle of Earth, if he had given us sound objectives and the forces we needed to achieve them, rather than sending us out with blunted fangs, this 'exercise' might have had a better outcome. But instead Thrakhath has thrown away this squadron as he has thrown away so many other warriors and ships, for nothing but his own vanity. One day it may be that he will throw away the Empire itself. And perhaps my sister's son will still be alive to claim the throne as the last surviving member of the branch of the Imperial hrai worthy of holding it.”

His nephew, Murragh, following Largka's direct order, abandons ship aboard a shuttle and heads for the nearest habitable place: a moon orbiting a gas giant planet in Vaku. A few hundred human and kilrathi survivors from the two confederate cruisers, the Frawquirg and the Karga also land on that moon; and the two enemy groups decide to put their differences aside, and work together for survival. Murragh becomes the leader of the kilrathi group, and nine or ten months later will be helping the FRLN with Project Goliath.
